The video was filmed live at Capitol Studios in Los Angeles, and is quite clearly cut from the same session that yielded his stunning performance of Jhene Aiko‘s “The Worst,” which debuted last month. It’s textbook Glasper–sly and smirking for all its concentration. Backed by bassist Vincente Archer and drummer Damion Reid, Glasper moved with grace through the tune’s lush chord progression, playing off of his bandmates to create a brilliant take that, despite its soft timbres, packed riveting intensity. To top it all off, new video of Glasper performing a take on Musiq Soulchild‘s “So Beautiful” has just been released. Not only is the jazz piano genius marking the release of his excellent new Covered LP, a return-to-form record that sees him once again recording in an acoustic trio ensemble, but he’s also preparing to set off on an extensive tour in support of the album. It’s been a great day for Robert Glasper.
